Warangal: Three boys aged between 14 and 15 years gang raped an eight-year-old tribal girl, filmed the act on a mobile phone and shared it with their friends and neighbours in Nekkonda mandal in Warangal.

Sources said that incident occurred on November 15 at the victim’s residence at BC Colony in Nekkonda when she was left alone by her parents who had left for work in an agricultural field.

The incident came to light on Friday when the MMS clips filmed by the three boys — two Class VIII students of a government school and a dropout — started being circulated in Nekkonda town, drawing the attention of the victim’s neighbours and the local police.

Nekkonda police sources said that till the MMS clip surfaced, the victim’s parents were not aware of the incident.

“Even when they took her to a private doctor in Nekkonda on November 20 after she complained of stomach pain, they remained clueless,” said Nekkonda police station sub inspector S. Amruth Reddy.

However, while investigating the origin of the MMS video clip, the Nekkonda police got a clue about the gangrape when parents of one the three accused boys reportedly entered into an altercation with the parents of another co-accused, blaming the latter for the incident.

Their confession led the police to immediately launch a drive against suspected mobile and CD centre owners in town on Saturday.

The police also seized quite a few memory cards from mobile phones of those who had received the MMS clip.

Sources said that the 15-year-old school dropout had hatched the plan to commit the crime on November 15 with the help of his two friends as there was an ongoing dispute between the victim’s and his family.

Boy hated victim’s mother

One of the boys who gang raped a tribal girl in Warangal had reportedly developed a grudge against the victim’s mother after it was rumoured that she was having an illicit relationship with his father, affecting his family’s reputation in Nekkonda.

Upon getting a formal complaint, the Nekkonda police sent the minor victim for medical examination to MGM hospital and registered cases against the trio under the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013, besides relevant provisions of SC/ST Atrocities Act and Protection of Children Under Sexual Offences Act, 2012.

“Based on the outcome of the medical examination, we will arrest the three minors involved in the case,” Narsempet DSP K.V. Saritha told media persons at Narsempet on Saturday.

Indian arrested in US on hate crime charges

New York: A 28-year-old Indian-origin man has been arrested in the US on hate crime charges after he allegedly assaulted a Jewish man as part of so-called 'knock-out attacks'.

Amrit Marajh of Brooklyn is charged with aggravated harassment as a hate crime, assault as a hate crime and misdemeanour assault, the New York Police Department said. The arrest came amid investigations by law enforcement officials into increasing incidents of random "knock-out attacks" where young assailants try to knock out unsuspecting victims with a punch.

Police say Marajh assaulted a 24-year-old Jewish man wearing a yarmulke on Friday in Brooklyn after he was talking about the knockout games with three other men. A report in the New York Daily News said Marajh voiced an anti-Semitic statement before attacking his victim.

All four men were taken into police custody shortly after the early morning attack but only Marajh is believed to have participated in the assault. Marajh was in court yesterday for his arraignment hearing on misdemeanour assault and harassment charges and has been released on USD 750 bail.

Marajh had left a local bar here with four friends and was talking about boxing when the "knockout" game came up, police said.

He allegedly boasted that he could knock out his victim after one of his friends challenged him. Marajh allegedly said, "Yes I can. I'll do it to this guy right now!" He punched the young Jewish man and hurled an anti-Semitic slur.

The growing incidents of 'knock-out' assaults have raised concerns across the country after a spate of such attacks in New York, New Haven, Washington, and Philadelphia. In New Haven, police spokesman David Hartman said police are investigating six incidents in the last month as part of the knockout trend.

Puducherry: The Chidambaram town police arrested two brothers on Saturday for abandoning their 97-year-old father on the streets here. B. Ramesh Babu (55) and his brother B. Sundar, both hoteliers, were arrested for driving out their frail father from the house a few days ago.

Based on a complaint lodged by the village administrative officer Thirumoorthy, the two were booked under Section 24 of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act.

A case has been registered. Baskar eked out a living, running a restaurant. He lost his wife 15 years ago and divided his time, between the homes of his sons, who were finding him a burden to look after.

A few days ago, the brothers abandoned their father on Bajanai Madam Street. A revenue department official who spotted Baskar, took him to an old age home, a police officer said, as he did not want to be reunited with his sons.

Baskar told this newspaper that when he lost his wife he sold away his property for Rs 15 lakh and divided the proceeds equally between his two sons in the hope that they would nurture and take care of him.

But it was only a short-lived expectation for the sons turned disloyal to their aged father and ultimately, dropped him on the road, leaving the old man pitilessly exposed to the elements. While he ran the hotel business Baskar had fed hundreds of people, but is now bereft of resources to keep his body and soul together.
