Governor's Golf Cup tournament
Shillong: Seventy amateur golfers today vied for the Assam Rifles Inaugural Governor’s Golf Cup Tournament at the newly developed 18-hole golf course at Laitkor, five kilometres away from here.
Major R D Dabla emerged as the overall leader at the end of the first day and Lt Col P S Kochar achieved the longest drive with 359.33 yards.
Eleven year-old, Esha Sharma, a promising young and prodigious golfer, a favourite in the ladies category in the tournament which is being contested in two handicap categories viz, 0-12 (Gold) and 13-18 (Silver) category handicaps.
Golfers with considerable repute in the male category include Lt Col Sandeep Sharma from the Assam Rifles, Gp Capt Cheema from the Indian Air Force, Col H Panging and Col Mehta from the Indian Army besides other golfers from the city.
Meghalaya Health Minister A L Hek is likely to also participate in the two day event.
