Secunderabad Cantonment Board faces major protest from local residents post demolition.
Hyderabad: The demolition of unauthorised buildings in the Secunderabad Cantonment Board areas has kicked up a major public protest with local residents accusing officials of targeting the poor.
The SCB demolition teams have so far demolished, either partially or totally, nearly 100 buildings in the last three weeks. Coming under pressure from house owners and residents, leaders from different parties G. Abel (Lok Satta), D.B. Devender (Cong-ress), Syed Aneesuddin (MIM), Y. Prabhu Gupta (TRS), A. Nagesh (BJP), M. Narasimha (CPI) and others formed a joint action committee and met SCB president Briga-dier Sunil S. Bodhe, urging him to stop the demolitions. JAC leader Mohd. Ayub Khan, said, “The Board should first demolish illegal constructions owned by bureaucrats and then touch the ones of the middle class and the poor,” he said.
When contacted, SCB chief executive officer Sujatha Gupta said illegal constructions have been dismantled even in big function halls like Agrasen Bhavan and Tirumala Garden.
