Core committee reviews Telangana Bill
Hyderabad: The Congress Core Committee on Friday evening had discussed the progress on the preparation of Telangana Bill at length. However, it is not clear whether the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, has approved the contents of the T Bill.
The Union Cabinet which was to meet on Thursday is now meeting on Monday, at 5 pm. The Agenda of items, which are already circulated to the Cabinet Ministers for the November 26 meeting, however, did not contain the Telangana issue as yet.
Sources said it all depends on how things will move in coming days so that T Bill could come up before the Cabinet meet as a ‘table item’.
Interestingly, Union Communications minister, who is holding additional charge of law ministry, was present in Friday’s Core Committee and reportedly gave his views on the contentious issues like how to make Hyderabad joint capital without making it as Union Territory and status of Article 371(D) whether it should be amended or repealed in the event of formation of two states etc.
The Congress president reportedly enquired about the progress of preparation of Telangana Bill, from the three Core Committee members — finance minister P. Chidambaram, home minister Sushilkumar Shinde and defence minister A.K. Antony, who are also members of the Group of Ministers constituted for the purpose. So far there is no information on the decision of the Congress president on the status of Hyderabad joint capital.
Since there are only 28 days left, from now to meet the December 20 scheduled deadline of the Parliament, and if Centre is serious about to complete the formalities in bringing the Telangana Bill before it, things have to be further speeded up.
