SC rejects Dinesh’s plea to stop CBI probe

Supreme Court dismisses plea of Dinesh Reddy to stop CBI probe.
Hyderabad: The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the plea of former DGP of AP, V. Dinesh Reddy, urging the court to modify its earlier order directing the CBI to investigate into his alleged disproportionate assets.
On September 6, a two member Bench had passed an order directing the CBI to probe into allegations of the former DGP’s disproportionate assets and had directed the chief secretary to provide copies of the 542 sale deeds enclosed by IPS officer Umesh Kumar in his complaint to the Centre against Reddy to the CBI.
Dinesh Reddy had moved two miscellaneous applications before the Bench urging it to rectify its orders. In his applications, he had submitted that he belonged to a landed family and had got into the IPS accidently while studying in Delhi and had maintained an impeccable record of integrity and had built up a reputation of being scrupulously honest throughout his service career.
He had stated that the Apex Court’s direction to the CBI to conduct an enquiry had made a huge dent on his image and more so because he was occupying the post of director general of police in the state (Reddy had retired in September).
Reddy had further told the court that the CBI had started enquiry and he had requested the director of the bureau to expedite the same. He said that he had explained to the CBI that barring eight sale deeds, which were in the name of his wife, the rest did not pertain to him, his wife or his family members.
He alleged that the CBI was probing real estate agents, namely Ravi Prasad and Krishna Reddy, whose names figured in the forged petitions and was trying to see whether they had any links with him with the help of their bank statements, incometax statements and cash flows. He submitted the details of his bank accounts and transactions, which did not pertain to this case, were also being probed by the CBI needlessly.
The SC Bench refused to intervene in the investigations of the CBI and dismissed his applications.
