Friend seeks permission to meet ‘Police’ Fakruddin

Madras high court directs prison officials to allow Abdul Rahim meet ‘Police’ friend in jail.
Chennai: The Madras high court has ordered notice to prison officials on a petition from J. Abdul Rahim, general secretary of the Indian National League Party of Triplicane, a friend of ‘Police’ Fakruddin, seeking a direction to the authorities to permit him to meet him in the central prison at Vellore.
A division bench, comprising justices S. Rajeswaran and P.N. Prakash, before which the petition came up for hearing on Friday, ordered notice to the IG, prisons, and superintendent of the central prison, Vellore.
In the petition, Abdul Rahim had stated that Fakruddin was arrested by CB-CID police in Chennai on October 4, 2013, but was not produced before any court.
When a habeas corpus petition was filed before the Madras high court on October 5, Fakruddin was produced before the judicial magistrate court-III, Vellore, the same day. Later, he was remanded in the Vellore prison.
Prison officials had not
allowed him to meet Fakruddin when he went there to meet him on November 18.
He sent representations to the prison officials, seeking permission to interview his friend. He stated that denial of permission would amount to violating Article 14 of the Constitution.
He sought a direction to prison authorities to permit him to meet Fakruddin in the prison, and render justice.
