The govt to raise the income limit for disabled persons’ pension from Rs 25,000 to Rs 3 lakh: CM

Thrissur: The state government will soon raise the income limit for disabled persons’ pension from Rs 25,000 to Rs 3 lakh, chief minister Oommen Chandy said here on Friday.

Inaugurating the mass contact programme at the Thekkinkadu Maidan, he said that steps would also be taken to rectify the shortcomings in the issue of ration cards.

The chief minister personally attended about 450 petitions during the event, which started by 9.30 a.m. and continued till late into the night.

As many as 22,199 petitions were received by various departments during the programme, of which, 17,122 were requests for changing ration cards from APL to BPL.

By 2 p.m., the chief minister met over 60 petitioners and sanctioned Rs 60 lakh, mostly for those seeking treatment assistance. Besides, Rs 43.20 lakh was sanctioned after reviewing 338 petitions scrutinised by the district administration.

LDF activists took out a protest march demanding resignation of the chief minister for his alleged role in the solar scam. However, the protestors were blocked near the venue forcing them to stage a dharna at the spot.
