Hyderabad gets set for Sunday sprint

Run will be flagged off from People’s Plaza, Necklace Road, at 6am.

Hyderabad: The 11th edition of the Hyderabad 10K Run dedicated to the cause of health, fitness and charity lead by Deccan Chronicle will be flagged off from People’s Plaza, Necklace Road on Sunday.

Till date, close to 10,000 participants have registered and the number is set to increase. The organisers said that the event will be an interesting mix of professional runners, sports lovers, celebrities, youth and senior citizens.

Participants will follow the course along NTR Garden, Lumbini Park, follow the road around Hussainsagar and finish again at People’s Plaza. Extensive barricading and special facilities such as medical, rest, TV room and refreshments camps are being set up.

Rachnotsav Events will be taking care of the facilities. An enclosed area that can seat 2,000 people will be dedicated to United Way, the charity partner for the event.

Former badminton champion and current coach Pullela Gopichand said, “The Run for me is a celebration. My entire family will be a part of this. Hyderabad is no more a laid back city, people have understood the importance of exercise. So the run will be a celebration to all the fitness freaks.”

However, Dinaz Vervatwala, fitness expert, will give the run a miss this year owing to a recent fall while exercising. “I strongly recommend all the participants to listen to their bodies and stay hydrated. Most importantly, wear shoes that they are comfortable in,” she said.

Uma Chigurupati, chairperson of the 10K Run, said that the event will be equipped with best in class facilities. Electronic timing devices or chips will be given to participants as part of their kits, which will ensure precise monitoring of timing. Free packaged water at every 1 km and medical facilities at every 2nd km will be provided.
