Choosing gift for spouse tough: Study

Gift for spouse: Higher the level of contemplation, better the effect, says study.
Chennai: Spouses have always been a fastidious lot to please and most men will surely vouch for that. A recent research on giftology reiterates just that. Buying a gift for spouses or partners has been the most difficult decision, aver most folks.
In fact, six out of 10 Chennaiites feel that it is difficult to buy gifts for their partners, reveals the research conducted by Titan Watches across five cities.
While 57 per cent of them claimed that it was the hardest to buy gifts for their partners and spouses, 13 per cent found the job frustrating to buy for siblings while 10% encountered the same problem when it came to gifting mothers.
“It appears that Indians consider spouses’ gifts a pretty difficult purchase; perhaps they are unable to dedicate as much care and attention to the selection as they could. The result; an extended purchase process” said Rajan Amba, Titan’s Global Marketing & Product Head.
While folks in the age group of 25-35 give the credit of being best gifters to their spouses and partners, older men in the age bracket of 45-55 claim to get best gifts from their fathers-in-law!
“In short, the more care and attention we apply to the gift process – ie. the higher the level of contemplation – the better the result for both giver and recipient. Now, that is a valuable insight this festive season!”
Gifts also seem to be getting glitzier with husbands opting for diamond and expensive watches. Gizmos are also being slowly replaced with gold, chocolates and healthy alternatives as dry fruits.
However, the worst gifts always seem to come from the closest of pals with about 31 per cent of them gifting useless stuff followed by bosses who accounted for 23 per cent of folks giving away futile presents.
