Sexing up a fresh cocktail
Sex on the Beach is one of the first cocktails we heard of after the Bloody Mary and the Cosmopolitan, and needless to say it evoked a lot of teenage sniggers. This is one classic cocktail that is subliminal in its usage of refreshing ingredients and as the name suggests, is an ideal companion on the beach.
Traditionally it is made from vodka, peach schnapps, orange juice, and cranberry juice. The ingredients are shaken together with ice in a shaker and are served in a highball glass. Sex on the Beach is often made as a shooter by using half vodka, half peach schnapps and a bit of grenadine. Safe Sex on the Beach is a virgin beverage made with cranberry juice, orange juice and peach nectar in a 3:3:2 ratio.
While not much is known of the origin of the name, the cocktail itself is said to have been created in the late 1980s.
