Creed called Benegal!

Lead vocalist and guitarist Uday Benegal will be performing at a star hotel today

Every young rock star's wish is that he was born in the 1970's or 80's when rock music was at its peak all over the world. Uday Benegal, the vocalist and guitarist of Indus Creed, was and still is living that dream! Having joined Indus Creed in 1985 and played with guitar Gods like Slash (Guns n' Roses), he is still on a roll, collaborating with several musicians. He is performing in the city with his band Alms for Shanti today at the Hyatt.

“Alms for Shanti is a band that I had formed with Jayesh Gandhi (former Indus Creed member) when I was in New York. I'm looking forward to this gig because we're going to be revisiting that rhythmic, groovy sound, which we don't usually play these days," says Uday. They're going to be playing songs like and 'Jiya Kashmakash Jaaye' -a few of their rare Hindi numbers.

Uday, along with Indus Creed, played at the October Fest last month and says, “Bengaluru has always been good for music," he says. He visits three to four times a year and loves the city because of the greenery “Also, I have cousins living here. So I like to drop by," he shares.

Singing for close to 30 years and retaining a flawless voice must be quite a task. “I've had my ups and downs, but if you love music and if you understand it, you'll do anything to keep it going," he says. While life experiences influence his music, he likes listening to Porcupine Tree, The Who and Karnivool. Ask him if there was a career alternative he would have looked at and he says, “I seriously can't think of anything else I would have done. There was always a need for music."

He is all set to release an EP, titled 'Whirling Kalapas', where he has collaborated with several individuals who play unique instruments. “We are also working on a new single," he adds.
