Padukone, Saqib to fight for Puravankara Bangalore team spot
Bangalore: Young golfers Anisha Padukone, daughter of the legendary shuttler Prakash Padukone, and Syed Saqib Ahmed, No. 4 on IGU order of merit list, are hoping to punch a ticket for Louis Philippe Cup 2014 at the KGA qualifier from November 22 to 23.
Padukone and Saqib will be amongst 300 members of KGA who will be fighting hard for a chance to represent Puravankara Bangalore team.
Zuber Ahmed, father of Saqib Ahmed and David D'Souza, who returned with the sixth place as a team at 19th Amateur World Golf Championship will also try hard to qualify for playing alongside Anirban Lahiri for the Puravankara Bangalore Team on the first two days of the Louis Philippe Cup to be held in February next year.
Saqib who finished 10th as a team at Nomura Cup last week, said: "I am very excited to play in a field where my dad, legendary David D'Souza and Anisha will be giving me a tough challenge and I am confident to finish as a leader.
"The Louis Philippe Cup is doing wonders to promote golf in the country for the amateurs as well as the Pros. It will help the game to attract more sponsors just as IPL did for cricket."
The winner from KGA will be the second of the three amateurs to be chosen to play for Puravankara Bangalore team. The third qualifier for the Bangalore team will take place in December at Bangalore Golf Club.
In a unique and competitive format for all participants, the combined 36 hole scores of the three member pro and three member amateur teams will determine the winners of the Pro-am Title that is to be held on first two days of the tournament.
However, the scores of the three member pro team will determine which four pro city teams progress to the semi-finals and which four city teams will play for the final placing in the last two days and then the finals of the Louis Philippe Cup to be held in February.
