Chennai: While there have been murder cases that were solved within a few hours of their happening, three shocking acts of murder that rocked the city.
On Tuesday, VijayÂakÂumar, a 45-year-old small-time buÂsÂinÂessman, was stalked and hacked to death near his house at Arasappa Mudali street in PurasaÂwalkam.
People of the area couldn’t believe that such an act could have happened in the densely populated residential area. Kaniga, a resident who moved in below the house of VijaÂyakumar on the day of mÂurder, has still not recovered from the shoÂck.
HoÂweÂver, the Vepery police, that has been investigating the case, maintained that the case would be cracked any time soon.
In the case of Dr Subbiah, it’s even more appalling as the police are not able to track down the killers, suspected to be henchmen, in spite of being in possession of a five-minute-long CCTV footage. Two attackers lyncÂhÂed the 58-year-old surgeon on September 15 in R.A. PÂuÂrÂÂam.
On September 23, the doctor succumbed to injuÂriÂeÂs and subsequently, high coÂurt advocate Boris, his brother Baisil and their parents surrendered before the police in Chennai and Coimbatore respectively.
Five special teams have been formed since the murder and investigations are in full swing, but the police haven’t managed to net any of the assailants.
The case of a 64-year-old woman, Vimala SanthanÂam’s murder in February this year is as good as forgotten now, as the police seem to have no further leads other than the murder being an inside job.
In defence of the police department, a senior police officer said no police officer would want an unsolved murder in his profile. “Sometimes, it just happens that the investigation becomes time-consuming and also we have to ensure that the right person is apprehended,” the officer explained.
