Optimistic Pessimist

I have spent my entire life wondering whether I’m an optimist or a pessimist.

I have spent my entire life wondering whether I’m an optimist or a pessimist.

How do I see my glass? Half empty? Half full? Then I realised I don’t care. Why has the waiter not yet come and refilled my glass? I don’t like poor management. I think life is just a restaurant where all of us are waiting to be served.

Optimistic people disagree with me. They feel life should be led through simple pleasures such as ‘Taking time to stop and smell the roses’. Now that makes no sense because I live in Mumbai and there is barely a garden here. In fact I will take more time in finding a rose than smelling it. Plus I’m an Indian. We don’t smell roses; we pluck them and sell them off at traffic signals during Valentine’s Day.

Then people say, “Cheer up Sahil I took the road less travelled and it has made all the difference.” I would love to agree with you but did you ever consider that the road is less travelled for a reason? You can end up getting mugged or have your kidney stolen. If having one kidney is considered as being different then you’re right in your optimism. Although I would advise you visit an Urologist as soon as possible.

Every optimist always has a pessimistic side. There is light at the end of the tunnel, but if you’re a bat you should stay in the dark. Every cloud has a silver lining, unless it’s a solar eclipse, which is great if you’re a bat.

So, I say forget pessimism or optimism and just forget about the glasses. Life is not about waiting for your order or being a bat, but just about safely travelling on the right roads and smelling everything but the roses.
