Anand Pawar goes down in Hong Kong qualifiers ?
New Delhi: Indian shuttler Anand Pawar squandered an early lead to suffer a three game defeat against Nan Wei in the men's singles qualifying competition of the Hong Kong Super Series on Tuesday.
World no. 30 Anand lost 21 18, 13-21, 13-21 in a 50 minute battle against the local shuttler, who is ranked 64th. Anand could not match Nan's smashes and net play and missed a chance to enter the main draw, starting Wednesday.
Anand had an early advantage but Nan clawed back to 5-5 and then moved ahead 14-11 but the Indian got his act together to take the game. In the second, Nan came back strongly to bounce back into contention. In the decider, Nan stayed ahead to eventually win it.
