Conditions for DMK holding public meeting

Meeting to hold by the election code of conduct and not to speak about Arumugham's arrest.

Chennai: The Madras High Court has directed the Salem police to grant permission to the DMK to hold a public meeting on November 23 in Salem to mourn the first death anniversary of former DMK minister Veerapandi S. Arumugham on its filing an affidavit indicating that it would abide by the election model code of conduct and the speakers would not speak anything about the arrest of Arumugham.

Justice K.K. Sasidharan gave the directive disposing of a petition from S. Subramani, zonal secretary of DMK, Gugai, Salem.

According to the petitioner, he submitted two applications to the police seeking permission to hold a public meeting in Salem, on November 23. But there was no response.

The judge said the petitioner was directed to swear an affidavit and produce it before the inspector of police indicating that he would abide by the model code of conduct in connection with the Yercaud by-election.
