Indian-American woman dragged for 5 kilometres to death
Boston: In a tragic incident, a 58-year-old Indian-American woman was killed when a youth struck her with a pickup vehicle and dragged her for nearly five kilometres after an altercation at a motel, police said.
Kanchanben Patel and her husband, who worked at the motel, were hit by the youth who had an altercation with them about illegal use of a room.
Moses Acloque, 22, hit Kanchanben with his pickup truck and dragged her for three miles, killing her, police said. Acloque was arrested in Foxborough late Monday night just after a state trooper reported seeing the body of Kanchanben under his Ford F150 vehicle.
Employees at Arbor Inn Motel told police that Acloque and another man had sped away from their property after refusing to pay their bill when he hit the couple, who recently celebrated becoming US citizens.
After smashing one car, MyFoxBoston reports, he struck Kanchanben and her husband. Acloque was arraigned Wednesday morning in Wrentham District Court on multiple charges, including leaving the scene of an accident causing death, prosecutors said.

Harassed by neighbour, teenage Mumbai girl commits suicide
Mumbai: A 14-year-old girl from suburban Kandivali allegedly committed suicide after she was harassed by a boy living in her neighbourhood, police said on Wednesday.
According to police, the girl's parents found her hanging with the ceiling fan in her bedroom at around 6 PM yesterday at their residence in Iraniwadi, Kandivali. The 16-year-old boy, whose name has not been disclosed as he is a minor, was today taken into custody under section 305 (abetment of suicide of child or insane person) of IPC, police said.
The boy forced on talking to her even after she avoided any conversation with him, causing her stress, her father alleged. He also alleged that his daughter was harassed by the boy on a number of occasions, prompting her to end life.
"Following the allegations that the teenager had troubled the girl in the past, we have taken him into custody on the charge of abetment of suicide. Further probe is on," Deputy Police Commissioner Mahesh Patil said.

Bangalore: RT Nagar police have nabbed a 21-year-old painter from Chikmagalur for allegedly raping a 19-year-old salesgirl at his employer’s house on November 14.
The suspect has been identified as Siddiqui Hussein, who came to Bengaluru a week back in search of work. He had been living in RT Nagar and was employed to paint a building on Dinnur main road.
The victim is Poorna (name changed), a native of Magadi taluk in Ramanagara district. Police said she came to the city a month ago and was selling dinner plates and cutlery. She was reportedly staying at a guesthouse in Dinnur, along with a few other women.

On the evening of November 14, the victim was carrying out door-to-door sales on Dinnur main road. The suspect, who was working in house number 14, reportedly called her on the pretext of buying something.
Hussein then allegedly locked the door and raped Poorna, police said. However, the victim managed to escape and is said to have returned to her parents’ home in Ramanagara.
Though afraid initially, the victim decided to approach the police and registered a complaint on Monday, based on which the RT Nagar police arrested Hussein. Both have been sent for medical testing, and a case has been registered.

Chennai: The central crime branch on Tuesday arrested a city businessman, a prime accused in the Rs 40 crore cheating case that also involves the managerial staff of a nationalised bank.
According to the complainant, Ravindran, former director of Ace Concrete, a private manufacturing company, his company had gone into loss and he had approached the bank seeking a loan of Rs 10 crore in 2010.
In the complaint, it was alleged that the managerial level persons had introduced him to the prime accused, before claiming a commission of Rs 3 crore.
In May 2010, the complainant was introduced to prime accused A.M. Farook, director of A.K.R. holdings private limited, by the bankers and was promised that Farook would take over the company for Rs 33 crore, the complaint stated.
The complaint also added that the agreement involved settling all debts and the bank had also accepted to return the company’s property that was pawned to the bank, in addition to paying the debts worth Rs 5 crore that were to be paid to individual financiers.
“As no money was paid and they didn’t keep their words, we decided to not sign the agreement, after which they coerced us into signing the documents using henchmen,” the complainant alleged.
“The henchmen also took away the cheques that were given to us by kidnapping my nephew, Karthik, and they have been issuing death threats to the family and children,” Ravindran claimed.
According to Ravindran, the bank officials, along with Farook, had sold his properties worth Rs 15 crore, in the bank’s possession, to base price to their own people.
Based on the complaint given in June 2013, the police, investigating the case, took custody of the accused, Farook, from Egmore magistrate court on Tuesday evening.
We have been given two days’ time for the investigation. Further investigation and arrests are yet to be made in the case, said assistant commissioner Murugesan, central crime branch.

Chennai: The city police on TuÂesday evening rounded up two employees of a silver smithy who tried to smuggle around 32 kg of silver that they had stolen from there, to Andhra Pradesh.
The accused, identified as Ramdas of Bricklin road, Otteri, and Qasim of Icehouse, were held at the Korukkupet railway station by a special team, police sources said.
According to the police, the duo was employed with Vijayan, who runs a silver smithy at Sami Bhaktan street in Otteri. A few days ago, Vijayan was given blocks of silver, weighing 32 kg, by a jewellery firm in Chennai for making jewellery and he had stored them in his workshop, the police
said.
The next day, Ramdas and Qasim failed to turn up for work and the silver blocks were also missing. Their mobile phones were not reachable and, subsequently, the owner filed a complaint with the secretariat colony police.
A special team was formed and we tracked the accused using their mobile towers and on Tuesday, around 5 pm, they were arrested and 30 kg of silver recovered from them, said inspector (crime), Minor Samy.
The seized silver is worth more than Rs 10 lakh, the police sources said. The accused were arrested and remanded in custody.

Bangalore: A 22-year-old engineering graduate was allegedly stabbed in the thigh by two criminals on bikes who attempted to steal his phone in Mico Layout police limits on Tuesday morning.
The victim, Hemanth Kumar, came to Bengaluru a few days ago and has been staying with his brother in?Mico Layout. He was on his way home at around 1 am when he was accosted by two men, who . demanded he hand over his phone. Hemanth refused and shouted for help.
The pillion rider then stabbed Hemanth in the thigh and the duo sped away. Hemanth has not noted down the registration number of the motorbike, police said. Hemanth, who has been admitted to a private hospital, is said to be recovering.

New Delhi: Two men have been sent to jail for 10 years each by a Delhi court for gang raping a 25-year-old woman. The court awarded the jail term to Bihar natives, Bihari Mukhiya, 36, and Chaudhary Mukhiya, 34, for the offence of gang rape and also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on them.
"I am of the considered opinion that the ends of justice can be met by sentencing convicts Bihari Mukhiya and Chaudhary Mukhiya to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 10 years each... under section 376(2)(g) (gang rape) of the IPC," Additional Sessions Judge M.C. Gupta said.
The woman had approached the police after the incident and had told the officials that she was brought to Delhi by her brother in May 2009 and she was employed as a maid in a house through a placement agency. She said one Raju Mukhiya, who was absconding, used to work near her employer's house and befriended her and expressed his desire to marry her.
On July 4, 2009, on the pretext of marrying her, Raju took her to Alipur here and after deboarding a bus, they started walking on foot through agricultural fields where they met the other two accused, Bihari and Chaudhary, police said.
She was kept in the fields in the night by the three men who raped her, it said, adding the next morning the trio dropped her at a metro station. With the help of a woman, who was working with an NGO, the victim approached the police and after taking her statement, a case was lodged by Shahbad Dairy police against the three men.
Later on, Bihari and Chaudhary were arrested while Raju could not be nabbed and he was declared proclaimed offender. The duo sought leniency, saying they are the sole bread earners of their families and have to support their wives and children.

Sitapur (UP): A block education officer (BEO) has been arrested for allegedly trying to molest a primary school teacher, police said here on Wednesday.
BEO Manoj Srivastav was arrested on Tuesday after a teacher at a government primary school in Pisawa alleged that she was called at the residence by the officer, where he tried to molest here.

Villupuram: The commercial crime investigation wing (CCIW) on Tuesday arrested a former secretary and two employees of the primary agricuÂltÂuÂÂral cooperative bank (PACB) at Arasur in the district on charges of misappropriation of public moÂney and preparation of false records.
According to the police, the then secretary of ArÂaÂsur PACB, Mani (61) of AlaÂnkÂuppam, in connivance wiÂÂth assistant secretary AyÂyanar and member MuÂruÂgan, had swindled Rs 2 lakh by tampering with documents while issuing crop and jewellery loans to members of the bank from 2008 to 2010.
