Waking to a lullaby

Recording a lullaby with child artist Sreya Jayadeep.

Lullabies have a soothing effect on every individual.

A lullaby is that sacred bond and unconditional love shared by a mother and child. Right from "Omana Thinkal Kidavo..." and "Pattu Paadi Urakkam Njan..." to the recent "Lalee Lalee..." from 'Kalimannu', these songs never fail to strike a chord with Malayalis.

Adding to the list is a recent track "Amme Ennamme..." from the movie 'Weeping Boy', crooned by six-year-old girl Sreya Jayadeep. The track was composed by Anand Madhusoodanan.

"The music and the background score of the movie are scored by Anil Panachooran and me. We wanted a child to sing one of the songs. The search for the right voice to croon the song was a Herculean task. Luckily, we happened to watch Sreya perform on a reality show and our search ended there."

It was during the making of this song, Anand decided to give the lullaby track to Sreya. "Her voice, and the way she sings, impressed me and I wanted her to sing the lullaby track too. An interesting fact is the music goes with the story of the movie, and the song has its own prominence."

Anand says that making a child sing a song, especially a lullaby track, was a totally different experience.

"It was fun working with her. While doing the song, she was the coolest person among us. The positive thing was her innocence. She just enjoys her singing but if we got into technical details, she would simply get bored!" says Anand with a laugh.
