Audio podcast essentials
What is podcasting, you ask? Simply put, it is a series of short audio files that are hosted online and which can be subscribed easily by the listener. Podcasting is a type of blogging. The difference? Instead of typing in words, you communicate via audio.
Audio is a powerful medium to communicate your story across and that’s why podcasting is a very potent method. However, it’s surprising that not many have taken advantage of this medium and it is highly under-utilized.
I have been podcasting for over a decade with my online show at http://Kiruba.FM, where I interview achievers from various fields. In this article, I draw upon my experience and suggest you some simple tools and techniques for you to get started.
The easiest and quickest way for you to get started is with audio and way easier than video podcasting. The good news is that you don’t need to invest in any expensive equipment for you to get started.
Audio recorder: If your mobile phone has an audio recording feature (most Android phones and iPhones have this feature built-in), you are good to start. If you have budget to spare, I would strongly recommend you to get the Zoom H4N audio recorder.
Audio editor: Once you have recorded the audio, you need to edit the sound files. The good news is that the World’s best audio recording software also happens to be absolutely free! Audacity ( http://audacity.sourceforge.net) It’s an easy to use software with very little learning curve needed. You can add intros, remove unwanted sections, add music and make your podcast interesting to listen to.
SoundCloud: Often referred to as the YouTube for audio, this is a good site to upload your audio files. http://www.SoundCloud.com.
