GM Vidit moves into joint lead

Vidit Gujrathi defeated tournament leader GM Lalith Babu M R to move into shared lead with 5.5 points.

Chennai: Grandmaster Vidit Santosh Gujrathi defeated tournament leader and fellow GM Lalith Babu M R to move into shared lead with 5.5 points after the sixth round of the Chennai Grandmaster International Open Chess tournament held in celebration of the FIDE World Championship Match, here today.

Sharing the lead at 5.5 points along with Vidit Gujrathi was Russian International Master Mozharov Mikhail.

The third spot is shared by FM Aravindh Chithambaram (India) and Rishi Sardana (Australia) at 5.0 points each.

Fourteen-year-old FIDE Master Aravindh continued his fine run as he upset fourth seed Ter-Sahakyan Samvel of Armenia.

Showing exemplary skills beyond his age, Aravindh converted a complicated Sicilian middle-game into a favourable end-game, sewing up the game in 47 moves.

Aravindh has thus far scalped two Grandmasters and two International Masters coming up with a stunning performance rating of ELO 2713.
