Karat confident of good election show
Coimbatore: Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Prakash Karat said here on Monday that the non-Congress and non-BJP parties woÂuld do well in the Lok Sabha elections and a new alliance would be formed thereafter.
“Our struggle is to bring alternative policies that are people-friendly. In the last two elections, both the CongÂress and BJP lost substantial support as they have not been able to garÂner 48 per cent of votes,” said Prakash KaÂrat, speaking to the meÂdia on the sidelines of a meeting here to commeÂmorate the centenary of veteran leader Jyoti Basu.
Prakash Karat said that both the Congress and BJP were equally responsible for anti-people policies. And the BJP was communal and corrupt too, he said. EmphÂasising that the people would decisively reject these parties in the election, he said that recently 14 non-Congress political parties came together and voiced their views against communalism and the nefarious activities of the RSS and BJP.
Alternative policies were put forth which would lead to an alternative government, said the CPM general secretary, who added that land reforms were required as more people were losing their lands. He hit out at both the BJP and Congress as anti-people who were supporting the big corporates.
The BJP supported the Congress even in the policies on foreign banks and privatisation of pension schemes, and proÂved itself to be against the interests of the common man. MP P. R. NataÂrajan was also present.
