Delhi polls: Turmoil in Kejriwal's AAP is an advantage for BJP

Possibility of Kiran Bedi supporting BJP could turn to be a big plus for the saffron party

New Delhi: With Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party caught in an internal turmoil, it's advantage BJP in the Delhi Assembly election. The BJP and newlyformed AAP are vying for the anti-incumbency vote in Delhi, but Kejriwal is now stuck in party troubles.

After 15 years of rule in Delhi, the Congress campaign in the national capital is showing signs of fatigue. Adding to the Congress woes is substantial chunk of the youth voters who had flocked to Anna Hazare's agitation in Delhi. With Mr Hazare stating in clear terms that Kejriwal and his party do not enjoy his blessings, the BJP has reasons to be optimistic about the support of young voters.

The possibility of the former IPS officer and Anna follower Kiran Bedi throwing her weight behind the BJP could turn to be a big plus for the saffron party .

Also, people are growing tired of Mr Kejriwal's boasts that his party would form a government in Delhi with full majority, based on the findings of a survey by his associate and AAP leader Yogendra Yadav. There are hints that Kejriwal's campaign peaked a little early, with thinner crowds for AAP candidates in various localities in recent days.

The BJP, in contrast, was a late starter as the party chose Dr Harsh Vardhan as the chief ministerial candidate only a few weeks ago. But Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj appears to be helping the BJP to catch up on the campaign trail.

Swaraj, who is considered to be Dr Vardhan's mentor, has begun addressing well attended crowds in various Assembly constituencies.

The BJP is likely to use Hazare's criticism of Mr Kejriwal for political benefits. With Mr Hazare himself raising questions over the use of funds raised in his name, Kejriwal may face tough time ahead to claim a clean image. In contrast, Dr Vardhan by maintaining a low profile and not indulging in personal attacks could help the BJP gain lead for the antiincumbency votes.
