Kasu flays Bakshi report
Rajahmundry: Minister for cooperation Kasu Venkata Krishna Reddy has said that the state governement will not implement the Prakash Bakshi Committee recommendations on cooperative sector as it is expected to affect the functioning of the entire system.
Speaking to press persons here on Sunday, the minister who was here to participate in a seminar on cooperative sector, said that even the supporters of cooperative movement and employees are more worried over the future of the sector because of the recommendations of the committee.
At the same time, the minister observed that accountability factor is also missing in the sector. In order to improve the accountability factor and to bring down political interference on the sector the ministry is planning to conduct a round-table conference with experts and stake holders, he said.
The minister also made it clear that efforts are being made to bring in changes at the grass-root level in the system. The minister observed that the distict administration often reviewed the performance of various departments but at the same time the cooperative sector has not been receiving their attention.
In order to take steps for it, the ministry wants revision of its performance on par with other departments by the district authorities. A decision on the issue would be taken in consultation with the Chief Minister he said. The minister also disclosed that special efforts are being made to develop the cooperative sector on par with commercial banks.
Venkata Krishna Reddy said that as part of strengthening the sector efforts are being made to conduct elections on regular basis to the cooperative bodies besides floating an independent body to conduct the elections. He said that the process of computerisation programme which was taken up earlier is being streamlined to cater to the changing needs.
