'Memories' of another day

Sreekumar used to sing in hotels before he took part in reality shows and became an actor.

SP Sreekumar sits at Hotel Mascot in Thiruvananthapuram, reminiscing about the times when he used to sing at hotels here, long ago.

Today he is recognised as the actor who played the villain in 'Memories' or the comedian in 'ABCD'.

But before becoming an actor he was a singer trained in classical music and went to the Swathi Thirunal Music College in Thiruvananthapuram. He sang western songs with bands at hotels in Thiruvananthapuram.

He participated in reality shows that finally brought him to cinema.

“I used to act as a child in school dramas. I would call it 'School of Drama' for fun. I later worked with Prashant Narayanan in a play 'Chayamukhi'," says Sreekumar.

He is at Mascot Hotel to attend the audio release of a film he has acted in 'At Once'.

“It is true that 'ABCD' and 'Memories' got me recognition, but a role I was really happy to have done is in 'Papilio Buddha'. Unfortunately it went unnoticed."

He had acted in 'Kandaha' and 'Dam 999' earlier.

“There is one person who has been a huge support to me but whom I haven't yet met in person," he pauses and says, “Actor Vijayaraghavan sir. It is he who recommended me for 'Memories'. We have spoken on the phone but not met each other yet!"
