Big opening for 'Ram-Leela'
Last week, we predicted that 'Ram-Leela' would have an opening of about Rs 15 crore. And the numbers were just as foretold: Friday saw the film rake in Rs 16 crore. With even more footfalls over the weekend, the film’s collections shot up to Rs 50 crore*.
With a positive reception from the critics, the collections should continue to be strong over the coming week.
The film is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s biggest opener till date and also the highest earner in three days after surpassing 'Devdas' (Rs 33 crore), 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' (Rs 20 crore).
For Deepika Padukone, this is her fifth biggie in a row after 'Cocktail', 'Race 2', 'Chennai Express', 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' and may also turn out to be her fourth straight 100-crore success. Ranveer Singh is now firmly in the big league as Ram-Leela crosses the collections of 'Band Baaja Baaraat' (Rs 20 crore), 'Ladies v/s Ricky Behl' (Rs 37 crore) and 'Lootera' (Rs 28 crore).
As for 'Rajjo', the film wasn’t expected to have a substantial opening and with sparse shows and audience interest minimal, this Kangna Ranaut starrer could fetch only around Rs 1.5 crore* over the weekend.
