Didn't know how to react, says Rohit Sharma
Mumbai: Sachin Tendulkar's emotional farewell speech brought tears to the eyes of many in the crowd and touched his millions of fans.
The parting master class touched his teammates as well.
“It was an emotional speech. He didn't forget to thank everyone. It shows the quality of the great man. I didn't know how to react while listening to his speech, I just wanted to get enough of Tendulkar whom I can no longer see in whites,“ said Rohit Sharma here on Saturday .
“There were funny speeches in the dressing room. (Coach) Duncan Fletcher gave a routine speech that he does after every series,“ said Rohit when asked about the dressing room atmosphere after the conclusion of Tendulkar's farewell Test.
The Mumbai batsman, who made his Test debut in Kolkata in the first Test of the series against the West Indies, said that Tendulkar would be sorely missed in the dressing room.
“Sachin brings so many things to the table. It is not only his batting but his conduct on and off the field. We have learnt a lot from him and he will be missed in the dressing room. “I don't know how team will confront this situation with Sachin not being part of the dressing room,“ he rued. Rohit was happy that his team gave Tendulkar a winning send off. “We wanted to win the series for the special man. I am sure he will be happy to end his career on a winning note,“ he said.
Tendulkar made a classy 74 but continued his 15-year-old jinx at Wankhede Stadium by missing out on a hundred again. “He has made many centuries in his 24-year-old career.
He wanted to score a century here and was batting well on 74 . But what he has given in last 24 years we are happy for that,“ he said.
Windies skipper Darren Sammy said the whole world would miss Tendulkar. “When he is batting you got to watch him and admire.
Legends come and go, but the world will miss Sachin. I don't know how the Indian dressing room will be with Sachin not in the playing XI,“ he said on Saturday . Sammy said his team had great respect for the Master. “When he came to bat we had a guard of honour for him. I took a brilliant catch of him but showed no emotions in respect,“ he added.
