State BJP eyes social media for campaign
Tamil Nadu BJP to cash on Modi's popularity, will campaign through social media.
Chennai: As the saffron party’s poster boy Narendra Modi is busy campaigning across the country, the Tamil Nadu unit hopes to gain leverage in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections by taking up campaign through social media riding on his popularity wave.
The Modi factor would impact the young voters particularly the first timers and the social media is a best medium to attract their attention, opines a senior leader in the party. “There are several thousands of first time voters and youth in all the 39 Lok Sabha constituencies in Tamil Nadu and we hope to reach them through social media effectively,” he said.
Already a good number of senior leaders including state chief Pon Radhakrishnan, national secretary Dr TamilisaisoÂundarÂarajan, state secretary Vanathi Srinivasan and organising secretary S. Mohanarajulu are quite active on facebook and have a good fan followings. There are other leaders who highlight speeches and quotes of Modi on facebook and twitter.
The party’s IT Cell has plans to tweet messages to attract the youth and the net savvy electorate. The social media campaign will be taken to a high decibel so as to garner votes for the party in the Lok Sabha polls, sources in the party said adding no other political party in the state has taken up such an initiative.
Besides, the BJP is focusing on identifying sector wise issues afflicting the people and would take them up during the electioneering. The party is targeting the educated middleclass in the urban constituencies across the state while it would woo the fishermen, villagers and agriculturalists and farm labourers in the rural constituencies.
