Bharadwaj to enter world record

He will perhaps enter the world record book for his unique work on 'Thirukkural'

Music composer Bharadwaj, who gave several hit songs to the likes of Ajith, Kamal and Cheran, among others, and who went into a period of long hibernation, returns after four years with a movie, 'Adhithi'. The composer, who has also worked in Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada movies, says that he spent these four years constructively and has attempted something hitherto untried. Soon he will perhaps enter the world record book for his unique work on the Tamil literary classic, 'Thirukkural'. Titled 'Thirukkural Isai Oru Kural Oru Kural', the album has each kural rendered by individual singers in light music format.

Speaking to DC in an exclusive, the composer says, “The 'Thirukkural' is one of the most important works in the Tamil language. I used this sabbatical to work on this classic which comprises of 1,330 couplets and composed them in a light music format. It is structured into 133 chapters which are grouped into three sections, namely, Aram, Porul and Inbam, with each segment preaching simplicity and truth, about ethical living in private life and procuring wealth and public affairs. I have composed different genres of music for each segment. I feel I can reach various age groups with the rich content of 'Thirukkural' through music. I am therefore making this mammoth effort."

He adds, “As a musician I wanted to do something with 'Thirukkural' which is of eternal and seminal value and relevant in all aspects of life. I did a lot of research before venturing into it. It took two and a half years for me to come to the finishing stage. It's a one-of-a-kind book which no one has attempted so far. More than 500 playback, classical, folk singers, percussionists, dance exponents and university students have taken part in this endeavour. I travelled all over the world, including the US, Malaysia, Singapore, France etc and roped in Tamil singers from there for the project. I also picked up Tamil singers from Mumbai, Kolkata and Delhi. Name any top singers, and they are there. I want this to reach all Tamil speaking households globally."

Swami Omkar Nandha has given the overview for each Adhikaram.

Bharadwaj is planning to release the album at a glittering event on January 17, 2014 which is observed as Thiruvalluvar Day in Tamil Nadu.
