A personal touch

“Design” is the process of transforming a conceptual idea and turning that into an actual product.

To me the meaning of “design” is the process of transforming a conceptual idea and turning that into an actual product that has an impact on the people viewing or receiving it. It must have panache and be different from what you have done before; otherwise you are no longer designing — just copying.

As for my inspiration, everything inspires me. Sometimes it’s the simplest things — a beautiful coloured fabric or an antique box. Sometimes it is more diverse like a stroll through Versailles or logos and platters of products and buildings. You think of ways in which you can use these ideas to form the genesis of new ideas, a new creation, in your own designs.

The idea of customisation of invitation cards came during my sister’s wedding. When we were scouting for invitations for her wedding, everything we came across seemed very cookie-cutter type. My family has a long history in the printing and paper industries and I have always had a creative flair. So I thought this was the best opportunity for me to express my creativity and create a card for my sister. So I did, and the response was overwhelming. People started calling me, to create a card just as unique for them. And so Ravish Kapoor Innovated Invitations was born. The idea is to create something so unique that people go “wow”.

We do not really look for any specific brief from our clients. The design team loves it when a client has a theme or concept, but very often a client comes into our showroom, looks at the various designs we have made previously, and takes inspiration from those. Other times they just want something new and different and leave it up to us to create it for them.

My work ethics are inspired from my family, my father in particular. But from a design perspective, Louis Vuitton was genius.- Ravish Kapoor, Designer of invitations
