Hyderabad: The police is back to basics. Police Vachakam, a book given to starters is now being distributed to all cops. Police Vachakam consists of the basics of the Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code, Police Manual, Investigation techniques, and code of conduct.

Additional DG (Coordination) V.K. Singh said all cops will be given a vachakam. The Police Vachakams were printed using funds given by BPRD (Bureau of Police Research and Development).

“We have printed 12,000 police vachakams including 10,000 in Telugu. A two-day soft skills training is also given to the police. This vachakams will help to beef up the legal knowledge of cops,” said V.K. Singh.

The police has already taken up an ambitious pilot project of conducting monthly written and physical tests for all policemen who are below 55.

“This is going to improve the efficiency of policemen. The tests are conducted at circle headquarters under the overall supervision of Additional SP (administration) at the district level. Almost 45,000 civil and armed reserve policemen excluding APSP personnel take physical tests every month. Written tests for the civil police has improved their legal knowledge,” said V.K. Singh.

Though the first edition of police vachakam was released earlier it was confined only to trainees. Now the upgraded police vachakam with all the basics is distributed to cops who are in service.
