Muslim-Hindu couple seek cops help

Newly weds land in Kovai CoP office for protection.

Coimbatore: A couple, who got united in an inter-religious marriage at a temple here, became the eye of attraction at the City Police Commissioner‘s office, where they arrived seeking protection on Friday. Garlanded and in their marriage costumes, the couple submitted a petition to police commissioner A.K. Viswanathan, stating that they feared disturbance from the bride’s family.

Twenty-four-year-old P Dilip, working at a bag shop at RS Puram, fell in love with Kurshith, 21, who hails from a Muslim family living near Athupalam.

Their three-year courtship led to the marriage at Sitthi Vinayagar Koil in RS Puram Friday morning, as per Hindu rites. Kurshith assumed the alias as Deepa.

Police said Dilip’s family had accepted his marriage to a girl of his choice but the couple approached the police commissioner for protection fearing problems from the bride’s family. Kurshith alias Deepa has a degree in nursing and works at a private hospital in the city.
