AWBI mulls ban on circus jumbos in India

Animal Welfare Board may consider banning elephants from circuses.
Chennai: Following Peta’s latest investigation revealing that animals used in Indian circuses are subjected to chronic confinement, physical abuse and psychological torment, the Ani­mal Welfare Board of India is considering to stop registering the elephants as performing animals in circuses.
Peta has been doing an investigation and a detailed report is to be submitted soon. The board discussed the issue during its recent ge­neral body meeting and soon the official communiqués will be sent to the state governments seeking better protection for elephants.
