Andhra Pradesh: CID cautions public against Amway

Additional DGP (CID) T. Krishna Prasad asks people to be cautions with the company and its activities.

Hyderabad: The Crime Investigation Department of Andhra Pradesh Police on Saturday cautioned the people against participating or joining the Amway India or any of its kind as its business is illegal and the Government has banned even advertisements of Amway products.

According to Additional DGP (CID) T. Krishna Prasad, the Amway India Enterprises has been promoting Amway products, through money circulation by conducting membership drive, cheating the public by luring them with incentives and commissions.

"The activities of Amway India Enterprises Pvt Ltd are covered under Money Circulation and are in clear violation for the Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, 1978. The Government of Andhra Pradesh has issued a GO Ms No 178 of Home (General-B), dated 5-9-2008 restraining publishing of any material/advertisements of Amway India," he said.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court and the Supreme Court of India have upheld the above GO Ms No 178. William Pinkney, MD, Amway India Enterprises, who is an accused in the CID AP case against Amway in Cr No 10/2006 of CID PS is also attending the Court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Nampally, Hyderabad, in the trial against Amway.

William Pinkney was against arrested on October 26 this year in Cr No 129/2010 U/s 420 IPC and Sec. 2 (C) R/w 3,4, 5 & 6 of Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, 1978. There are several cases already registered in the State of AP against the Amway India Enterprises. Therefore, the Additional DGP has asked the people to be cautions with the company and its activities.
