This time, he sips iced lemon tea

The world chess championship challenger relaxed himself by visiting the beach resort.

Chennai: It could be a mystery novel, an auto-biography or even a chess book. But Magnus Carlsen was completely immersed in the book, which happened to be his favourite pastime at Taj’s Fisherman’s Cove on Thursday. The world chess championship challenger relaxed himself by visiting the beach resort. He had earlier spent two nights at the resort, when he landed in the city from Muscat on November 4.

Resort sources said that the world no. 1 has hired a villa on the beach front, the highest rated property in
the resort for his personal use till the end of this month.
Apart from Carlsen’s father Henrik, sister Ellen, chef Frossell, bodyguard Nesse, another lady and a gentleman were also present for Thursday’s
dinner at the Mediterranean restaurant, according to a source.
Carlsen, who reached the beach resort at 11 pm on Wednesday, stepped out of his room only at 1 pm on Thursday. “He did not even
order breakfast,” revealed a resort manager. In the afternoon, the Mozart of Chess spent a long time near the pool engrossed in his book.
Later, he also played water volleyball with his family and friends. The team ate chicken burgers for lunch at the pool side.
Later in the evening, Carlsen treated his family and friends for dinner, where he had iced lemon tea and penne pasta with pesto sauce. While his friends are scheduled to leave the resort on Friday, Carlsen and his family left for Hyatt Regency on Thursday night to gear up for his fifth game against Anand.
