UDF initiates talks with junior allies

Oommen Chandy and UDF convener P. P. Thankachan held bilateral talks with junior allies.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and UDF convener P. P. Thankachan held bilateral talks with junior allies at Cliff House here on Thursday. While KC (B) general secretary C. Venugopalan Nair iterated his party demand to reinduct former forest minister K. B. Ganesh Kumar in the cabinet, the CMP, JSS and KC (J) demanded to have the pending vacancies filled.

Both the Congress leaders have promised them that within a week their issues will be amicably settled after holding talks with the ministers and UDF leaders.

However, KC (J) chairman Johnny Nelloor told DC that they were dejected with the way UDF had been giving false promises. Out of the smaller allies, it is KC (J) which has the longest list of demands – UDF district convener post in Ernakulam, PSC member post, new taluks to be formed in either Piravom or Koothattukulam as well as in Angamaly, welfare board chairman post, syndicate member posts and six more board/corporation posts.

“Today’s talk was another eyewash as similar talks have been held several times. We have lost all respect. We have informed the Congress leadership of returning the current board/corporation posts we are holding now,” Nelloor said.

JSS leader A. N. Rajan Babu lamented that out of the promised 17 board/corporation posts, so far only six have been given. “They have promised me that they will settle our demands within a week”, Babu said.
