Kolkata: Siraju A P scored two goals to help Army XI beat ONGC 4-3 in a thrilling contest and claim the 118th All-India Beighton Cup hockey tournament at the SAI artificial turf here today.
It was Army XI's maiden Beighton Cup title.
Army XI, who got the better of the defending champions Indian Oil in semi-finals, yesterday, continued their dream run.
Three early goals by Siraju (5th min), S Arumugam (10th) and P K Milan (17th) put Army XI in command before ONGC's Gagandeep Singh (26th) and Diwakar Ram (30th) netted the ball twice to reduce the margin.
Giving a tough fight, ONGC snatched the lead with just 10 minutes left for the regulation time as Mandeep Antil slammed the board.
But their joy was cut short by Siraju, who completed a fine double a minute later. He was adjudged the Player of the Tournament.
Army XI won a prize money of Rs 1.5 lakh, while ONGC pocketed Rs 1 lakh.
West Bengal Sports Minister, Madan Mitra announced an additional Rs 1 lakh for the champions and Rs 50,000 for ONGC.
