South Africa beat Pakistan by nine wickets in the first Twenty20 international in Dubai.

Dubai: South Africa beat Pakistan by nine wickets in the first Twenty20 international in Dubai on Wednesday, to go 1-0 up in the two-match series.

Paceman Dale Steyn took 3-15 as Pakistan were restricted to 98-9 -- their lowest total in this form of cricket against the South Africans -- in their 20 overs after they won the toss and decided to bat.

Umar Akmal top-scored with a 41-ball 49 but none of the other batsmen could sgive him proper support.

Lonwabo Tsotsobe and Imran Tahir took two wickets apiece.

South Africa reached the target for the loss of one wicket in 14.3 overs with Quinton de Kock unbeaten on 48 and Faf du Plessis 37 not out.

The second match will also be played in Dubai on Friday.
