Prabhakar threatens to damage HLMC gates

Former Tadipatri municipal chairman J.C. Prabhakar Reddy has threatened the Tungabhadra.

Anantapur: Former Tadipatri municipal chairman J.C. Prabhakar Reddy has threatened the Tungabhadra High Level Main Canal authorities that the gates would be damaged if the authorities did not release water to the Subbarayasagar reservoir in Tadipatri division.

The Congress leader, who is also the brother of Tadipatri MLA J.C. Diwakar Reddy rushed to the office of the superintendent engineer for HLMC near Maa Telugutalli circle office here on Wednesday. The Subbarayasagar contains water flowing from the HLMC source in Tadipatri connecting tailend fields.

Reddy represented to the HLMC authorities for the timely release of the allocated 1.5 tmc ft of water for irrigation and drinking water needs in tailend fields and the villages of Tadipatri division. The Congress leader alleged tailend fields are the worst hit due to the poor release of waters from the main canal every year.

Asking the irrigation officials to release the allotted quota of waters to Subbarayasagar, Reddy set a deadline of Nov. 21 for releasing 1.5 tmc ft of water from the Penna Ahobilum Balancing Reservoir.

Angry farmers are ready to break the crest gates if the authorities failed to release water before the deadline. The authorities, however, assured Reddy that water would be released to all tailend areas in time.
