Hyderabad: The CPM, which is against bifurcation of the state and is facing wrath from pro-Telangana parties all these days, on Wednesday suggested the contentious Bhadrachalam revenue division be retained in Khammam district and also change of designs for the yet another controversial Polavaram multipurpose project, to avoid huge submergence, much to the delight of the T parties.
CPM secretary B.V. Raghavulu and its lone legislator from state Julakanti Ranga Reddy have met GoM and vehemently opposed the division of the state. They have suggested that instead of going ahead with bifurcation, it would be better to announce huge financial package for developing the backward areas in all the three regions of the state.
Talking to the media, Raghavulu said, “We told them that the state should not be divided, but they asked us what about Bhadrachalam division. We replied that when we are opposing the state division itself, how can we support Khammam district division.”?
When the GoM asked them about Polavaram project, they told them that it is better to avoid huge submergence of tribal villages and tracks under the project, by changing the designs, and go for barricades instead of construction of a Dam.
Meanwhile, YSR Congress representatives — Dr M.V. Mysoora Reddy and Gattu Ramachandra Rao — have submitted a letter to the GoM, opposing the Centre’s move to divide the state. “When 75 per cent of the state population is against bifurcation why and how is the Centre going ahead with the division,”?Reddy asked.
“It is the typical British style where they believed in the divide and rule policy, and the UPA government is also implementing the same, in order to garner votes and seats,”?the YSR Congress leader alleged.
Mysoora Reddy and Ramachandra Rao referred to the few statements from some of the Congress leaders claiming T Bill will be introduced on December 9, in Parliament, to mark birthday of Sonia Gandhi.
“Is this the way the state has to be bifurcated, pleasing their political bosses? Is there no other criteria for division of state except to celebrate a birthday.”
Mysoora Reddy also said there are certain problems involved in bifurcation of state which cannot be solved due to the complexity and asked GoM not to disturb the state unity and integrity.
