Congress scared of census data: MLC Puttaswamy
Former minister Puttaswamy alleges UPA govt of not releasing the findings of Census 2011.
Bengaluru: Former minister and MLC B.J. Puttaswamy has slammed the UPA government for not making public the findings of Census 2011, alleging that the Congress was afraid that the Census would reveal the Hindu population was on the decline, while the Muslim population had increased in proportion over the decade.
Accusing the Congress of indulging in divisive politics by doling out special packages to Muslims as per the Sachar Commission recommendations and PM’s 15-point programme for minorities, Puttaswamy said, “Congress is creating communal feelings among people by appeasing Muslims.
Can any Congress leader define who is a minority? Census shows that Hindu population declined from 83.4 % (1961) to 80.5 % (2001), while Muslim population increased from 10.7 % to 13.4 % in the same period. While, the Centre is delaying Census 2011 from reaching the public domain experts say the Muslim population is now 22.5 per cent and Hindus around 70 %. We need a legislation for population control.”
Recalling the Constituent Assembly debates on communal reservation, Puttaswamy said, “Even Muslim leaders like Tajamul Hussain opposed Muslims being labeled minorities calling it a British creation.
