Jaya nagar complex: Open door, plunge to death

65-year-old woman died after falling from third floor of Jayanagar Shopping Complex.
Bengaluru: A 65-year-old woman, who had gone to BBMP office to enquire about old age pension, died after accidentally falling from the third floor of Jayanagar Shopping Complex in Jayanagar fourth block on Tuesday.
The deceased, Jayamma, was a resident of N.S. Palya near Tavarekere. A native of Magadi, she was staying at her daughter Usha’s house in N S Palya. The police said Jayamma had gone to the BBMP zonal office on the third floor of the Jayanagar Shopping Complex on Tuesday.
After her work, she wanted to attend nature call. She went in search of a ladies toilet and opened the door, which was next to the men’s toilet, assuming that it was the door to the ladies toilet. But there was nothing behind the door and she plunged to the ground.
“As she stepped out without looking, she fell on the ground and died of fatal head injuries. The place where she fell is located behind the complex and is normally deserted. Thus the incident did not come to light till evening, when a worker went there to clean the premises,” the police added.
The accident would not have occurred if the door was locked. “It was just latched and easy to open. No warning signboard was in place . It is not known why a door is fixed at that place. We have registered a case,” the police said.
Jayamma’s daughter Usha said, “She started living with us just six months ago. On Tuesday morning, she said she would go to BBMP office to enquire about her pension.”
