Aditya Chopra shows he’s not lacking in trust

Aditya Chopra has shown a commendable amount of trust in his directors

He may be a hard-headed businessman, but Aditya Chopra has shown a commendable amount of trust in his directors — even when they’ve had not very flattering box office results for their past endeavours. The same goes for Vijay Krishna Acharya, who is helming 'Dhoom 3', despite having a commercial disappointment like 'Tashan' to his credit.

“That’s how Adi is,” says one friend. “If he puts his money on you, he sticks by you.”

In fact, rare indeed has it been for Adi to show a director the door after just one flop. “Kunal Kohli’s 'Mujhse Shaadi Karoge' flopped, but Adi trusted him to deliver with 'Hum Tum' and 'Fanaa'. After 'Tere Liye', Adi saw the potential in Sanjay Gadhvi and gave him 'Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai', 'Dhoom' and 'Dhoom 2' to helm. Even Shimit Amin, who started with 'Ab Tak Chhappan' got a much bigger platform with 'Chak De! India',” one source pointed out. And Pradeep Sarkar’s 'Lafangey Parindey' and 'Laaga Chunari Mein Daag' may not have done well, but he is directing Rani Mukherji in 'Mardaani'.
