Preetam rules roost

Hyderabad: P. Lasya and Vallabhaneni Preetam emerged champions at the Andhra Pradesh Lawn Tennis Association (APLTA) State ranking tennis tournament held at Sunjay’s Tennis Academy, Banjara Hills, in Hyderabad.

In the girls’ under-14 singles final, Lasya defeated Charitha Vasi Reddy 8-6 to clinch the title. In the boys’ singles summit clash, Preetam outclassed Hari Chandan 8-3 to bag the trophy.

Preetam later completed a double by winning the boys’ singles under-12 title as well, defeating K. Brihat 8-0 in a one-sided summit clash. In the girls’ under-12 singles category, D. Sunskrithi won the top honours, getting the better of Charitha Vasi Reddi 8-0 without breaking sweat.

In the under-10 singles category, P. Nidhi and V. Karthik Neal emerged champions. In the girls’ singles event, Nidhi gave no breathing space for her opponent, V. Aadithi, en route a superb 8-1 victory to claim the trophy. In the boys’ singles event, Karthik Neal fought off a tough challenge posed by K.

Shashidhar, who impressed with his accurate baseline shots, to register an 8-5 victory in the summit clash.

?Harikrishna Prasad was the star performer for State Bank of India with his impeccable drive-in shots as the team beat ECIL 47-36.

State Bank of India and South Central Railway scored contrasting victories in the pre-quarterfinals of the Annual League-cum-knockout basketball championship, organised by the Hyderabad District Basketball Association, in Hyderabad.

The highly fancied State Bank of India defeated ECIL DAE Colony 47-36 after being tied at 19 at the halftime while South Central Railway toyed with Lions, before scoring a convincing 39-17 win.

Harikrishna Prasad once again was the star performer for State Bank of India with his impeccable drive-in shots and converts from offensive rebounds. Hari towered over his opponents, especially in the second half where he indulged in a scoring spree.

Subbaiah Choudhary also impressed while veterans Mohd Rizwan, Chenna Reddy, Ramchandran and Prem Krupakar lent them admirable support in defence. Hari top scored for SBI with 25 points.

For ECIL, Nikhil spearheaded the attack but the better concentrated effort from the experienced opponents put his efforts in vain. In the second match of the day, South Central Railway outplayed Lions with Satish and Murali impressing in the attack.

Satish top-scored for SCR with 11 points while Murali added 7. For Lions, Gopi scored 7 points.
