School kid dies at hands of homosexual
Tiruvarur: A 30-year-old homosexual was arrested in connection with the death of a 9-year-old boy near here. The boy, Varunan, of Radha Nanjai street, in Komal village, near here, was found hanging at his house under mysterious circumstances on October 1.
The boy, a class 4 student, was alone at home when the incident happened. His widowed mother Jayalakshmi, a labourer, had gone for work while his two brothers had also gone out. JayaÂlakshmi returned home late in the evening and was shocked to find her son hanging dead with her saree from the ceiling.
On being informed, the police rushed to the spot, retrieved the body and sent it to the government hospital for post-mortem. Based on a complaint from his brother Murali, the taluk police registered a case of suspicious death and were investigating.
The post-mortem report revealed that the boy had died of breathlessness after he was sexually assaulted.
Based on the startling revelation, the police conducted an enquiry which revealed that Baskar (30), a homosexual of the same area, had entered Jayalakshmi’s house that day and forced sex on the boy.
When the boy died due to breathlessness, Baskar hung his body with the help of Jayalakshmi’s saree to make it appear as a case of suicide and fled the scene.
The police arrested Baskar on Monday on charges of murdering the boy. The accused was produced before judicial magistrate Kavitha at her residence on Monday night and remanded in judicial custody.

Thoothukudi: A youth was hacked to death by a four-member gang in ThoothuÂkudi on Tuesday for his father not giving money to drink.
The rowdies, led by notorious ganja peddler Murugaiah of MGR nagar, Thoothukudi, demanded '600 from a small trader, Ganesan, to buy alcohol. As the trader refused to give them the money, they attacked him with sickles. Muthukumar (25), son of Ganesan, who went to the rescue of his father, was hacked to death by the rowdies.
The Muthaiahpuram police have registered a case and are investigating. According to the police, Murugaiah, the prime accused, already has three murder cases against him in Thoothukudi.

Bengaluru: A four-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her landlady’s teenage son in Chandra Layout police limits on Tuesday evening. The victim is a resident of Arundathi Nagar, and her father is employed at a printing press in the area, while her mother is a homemaker.
Police said the suspect, identified as Arun (19), is a pressure cooker salesman. Arun lives with his mother, who reportedly works as a domestic help. Arun’s family moved to Bengaluru from Tamil Nadu a few years ago, and had rented out the first floor of their house to the victim’s family.
On Tuesday evening, Arun reportedly lured the minor to a lonely spot near their house and raped her, police said. After frightening her to silence, Arun let her go. However, the alleged rape came to light when the victim came home crying around 6 pm. Upon being questioned by her mother, she is said to have explained that Arun had 'hurt' her.
The victim’s family then immediately rushed the girl to Vani Vilas hospital and informed the Chandra Layout police. Arun, who was on the run, was arrested later in the night. A case has been registered and further investigations are on.

Thanjavur: A 27-year-old yoÂuth was arrested on the charge of sexÂÂÂually assaulting a minor girl neaÂr Pattukottai.
Sankar (27) of Naalvazhikottai, near Pattukottai, took the 13-year-old girl to his hoÂuse on Sunday and sexually assaulted her. He also repoÂrtedly threatened her with dire consequences if she ever disclosed this incident to anybody.
As the girl took ill and complained of severe pain and bleeding in her privÂate parts, her motÂher grew suspicious and queÂstioÂÂned her. Then, thÂe girl told her wÂhÂÂÂat had haÂppeÂneÂd. Based on a complaint, the PattukÂottai police registered a case.

Kochi: An army cook was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly molesting a college girl who was waiting at the Ernakulam South station along with her family, to board a train.
The incident happened at 1.15 pm when the family was waiting at platform No 1 to take the Tirunelveli-Happa Superfast. The accused, Sai Ramesh (40), walked up to the platform and stood beside the girl. After staring at her for a few minutes, he suddenly “embraced and kissed” the victim in full view of the public.
The shocked victim screamed and the fellow passengers soon caught him and roughed him up.
“The accused has been identified as Sai Ramesh, S/O Gopalan, Sai Sree House, Chattankulangara, Tirur , Malappuram. We’ve booked him under Section 354 (Assault or Criminal Force to Woman with intent to outrage her modesty) based on a complaint by the girl,” a Government Railway Police officer said.
The accused had no history of illness or mental aberration. Witnesses said the attack had come without any provocation of any sort. The girl was in a state of shock, they said.
Over the last one month, at least two cases of college girls being molested were reported in the city. Both the incidents took place in private buses.

Hyderabad: A 27-year-old compressor operator was killed when a rock fell on him at a construction site at Kolkampally village in Ibrahimpatnam on Tuesday.
The victim and his helper were trying to drill a rock formation after blasting the site when the accident occurred. The victim, M. Srisailam, who sustained serious injuries, was declared dead at the nearest hospital.
“Srisailam and his associate Lingam were drilling the rock formation at the site. Suddenly, the rock fell on the victim while Lingam escaped with minor injuries. After remo-ving the rock, the victim was rushed to hospital. however he succumbed to his injuries,” said Ibrahimp-atnam inspector K. Ramkumar said.
The incident occurred when the other employees were busy blasting the surrounding rock formations. Police said that site belongs to ‘Jana Harsha’.
The management had not taken any safety measures for the labourers who were working at the site.
Police booked a case against the management for culpable homicide not amounting to murder on a complaint filed by victim’s relative.

Hyderabad: A man was dragged to the police station by a woman after he allegedly tried to molest her. Lakshmi, a labourer in Kukatpally, was waiting for a contractor to give her work, but the accused Mallesh approached her saying he would give her work. He then asked her to follow him to a nearby place.
However, on reaching the place, Mallesh and his friend allegedly made sexual advances and made lewd comments. Lakshmi then hit him with her footwear and dragged him to the Kukatpally police station. Police booked a case against Mallesh for outraging a woman’s modesty.

Machilipatnam (AP): A tenant farmer allegedly committed suicide by drinking pesticide in his residence at Yetimoga village of Krishna district.
According to the police, K Lakshminarayana (55) a tenant farmer and native of Yetimoga village raised a paddy crop in two acres by taking land on lease. On Tuesday, he reached the farm only to find his crop fully damaged due to the recent rains.
Fearing mounting debts, he consumed pesticide at his residence yesterday night, after which his family immediately rushed him to Avanigadda Government Hospital, where he died. The Nagayalanka police has registered a case and an investigation is on.

Hyderabad: The police on Tue-sday held two women for questioning in Mumbai in connection with the kidnap of a newborn baby from Farah Hospital at Dayara Market in Ram Nagar.
CCTV footage had shown the two women drin-king tea at 5.30 am near the hospital is situated. This roused the cops’ suspicion and after checking CCTV foot-ages of railway stations, the women were tra-ced. It was found that they went to Mumbai.
The women have been held and are being qu-estioned, said a senior police officer adding that a team had already rea-ched Mumbai.
Police sources, meanwhile, maintained that kidnapping of babies were stray incidents in the city. In 2008, a gang was apprehended for stealing infants and abducting young school-going children and since then such incidents had been stray and there were no clues about the presence of organised gangs.
Meanwhile, the family of the newborn baby, the Sheikhs, were distraught since there was no news of the baby. They were called to the Gandhi Hospital to identify the dead body of a four-day old baby. The newborn’s grandfather, Sheikh Ahmed, said, “The child does not resemble the missing baby.”
The baby’s mother, Rehana Begum, meanwhile, has become weak as she underwent a C-section and the shock of losing her child has further depressed her.
The family is now being questioned by the cops on whether anyone had inquired about Ms Begum’s delivery as they hope to get some clues about the kidnapper.

Bengaluru: Depressed over alleged dowry harassment by her husband and in-laws, a 25-year-old woman, who was eight months pregnant, ended her life by hanging at Peenya police station limits on Monday night.
The deceased has been identified as Kalavathi, a native of Tumkur and a resident of Kempegowda Nagar near Dasarahalli. Kalavathi had reportedly been married to one Raghavendra, an employee of a private finance company, for the last one-and-a-half years.
Police said the couple used to frequently quarrel over petty issues, including dowry. On Monday night, the couple reportedly had another fight, after which Raghavendra slept in the hall, while Kalavathi locked herself in their bedroom.
Early on Tuesday, when Raghavendra tried knocking on the door to wake his wife up, he received no response. He then broke open the door to find Kalavathi hanging from the ceiling fan.
The Peenya police was informed and Kalavathi’s sister Kamalamma filed a complaint of dowry harassment against Raghavendra; following which he was taken into custody. A case of dowry-related death has been registered under IPC section 304 (b) and a detailed probe is on.

Coimbatore: A naughty class X student from a private school, who made a hoax ‘bomb’ call to the city police control room on Monday night, has been nabbed and sent to the juvenile home.
Investigations revealed that he frequently made prank calls to the police control room and the 108 ambulance. As the city police were gearing up for the Tuesday’s industrial strike, the police control room received an alarming call around 9 pm on Monday.
The caller threatened that six bombs had been planted in important places in the city and would explode on Tuesday morning.
The control room immediately alerted the city police commissioner who ordered the cops to identify the call. Bomb squads too were put on alert.
It turned out that the boy had called from a mobile phone number. Immediately, the police traced the call to Chandran of Kalimadi in Singanallur. When Chandran was interrogated, he revealed that his son, studying in Class X at a private school in Puliyakulam, may have made the call.
The police interrogated the boy, who confessed to having made frequent bomb threatening calls to the city police and also to the 108 ambulance.

Visakhapatnam: In a major breakthrough, PM Palem police, on Tuesday, arrested a four-member gang of burglars, who were involved in 12 cases under various police station limits, including nine cases under PM Palem police station in the city.
Police recovered around 1,000 gms silver ornaments, 75 gms gold ornaments, six LCD TVs, one DVD player, two cameras and few other electronic goods, all worth Rs 5 lakh from the gang.
P. Kanaka Raju, 23, and K. Pradeep Kumar, 24, both residents of Madhurawada area in the city, struck many houses in the city. The duo were taken into custody by police while moving suspiciously at Kommadi area on Monday evening.

Hyderabad: Alleged robbers attacked a 45-year-old woman at her house at Budvel, and decamped with gold weighing 50 gram.
The woman K. Kalamma, who was sleeping in her house alone, was found injured by her son on Tuesday afternoon. The assaulters pulled away her earrings and hit her with bricks causing serious injury to the victim’s ears, face and head.
The victim was rushed to Osmania General Hospital by the police and relatives. “We have not found any witnesses yet to confirm if it was only a robbery,” said Rajendranagar sub-inspector Kanakaiah adding that it could be an attempt to murder.
Relatives of the victim said that Kalamma was alone in the house as her son and daughter had gone to their own houses. Cops said that she is still in critical condition. Rajendra Nagar police has booked a case on a complaint filed by the victim’s son and launched a manhunt. to catch the assaulters.

Chennai: The Central crime branch (CCB) of the city police on Monday arrested two primary teachers of the CheÂnÂnai corporation schools for joining service using fake certificates.
According to CCB souÂrcÂes, M. Kuppan and T. Raja are the first two to be held amÂong 29 others against whÂÂom complaints have been received.
The incident surfaced after officials in the directorate of technical education had received information on teachers who had joined service using fake certificates.
After verifying the documents, it was found that some of them had used fake certificates and based on a complaint by the Chennai corporation’s education officer, K. Ravichandran, with the city police commissioner, a special team of the CCB was formed to investigate the case, a release said.
On Monday morning, the special team held M. Kuppan, 48, a resident of Shenoy nagar, and T. Raja, 40, a Perambur resident, in front of the corporation primary school in MGR nagar, where they work.
Both of them have been in service for 15 years now and investigations revÂeÂaled that they had forged teaÂcher training certificates of others to join service, while in actuality they had only valid high school cerÂtificates, said Mr E. Velu, inspector, CCB (team-V). Kuppan is a native of TiruÂvannamalai, while RaÂja is from Cheyyar. They had got their certificates forged at Vellore, he added.
As they accepted the fraud, the accused were held and produced at the EgÂmore magistrate court and remanded to Puzhal.
