Newcomers have invaded Mollywood. One of them, Sudev Nair, comes with a big ticket Bollywood film in his kitty.
Sudev is a part of the Anubhav Sinha-produced film 'Gulabi Gang', starring Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla in the lead. The film is about a group of women vigilantes and activists who fight against social injustice. The details of his character are being kept under wraps but Sudev mentions that he plays a major negative character in the film.
He will be debuting in Mollywood through the film 'My Life Partner' directed by debutant Padmakumar.
Sudev is living his dream and is relishing every moment of it! A postgraduate of FTII Pune, he nurtured an avid interest in films without missing out any chance that led him a step closer to fulfilling his dream, including working in a few ad campaigns.
Though born and raised in Mumbai, he belongs to Aluva in Kerala. His hometown was a favourite haunt during his vacations. He says, “I have always been a big fan of Malayalam films and in fact, wanted to start my acting career in Mollywood but I guess fate had other plans!" It certainly did... in the form of 'Gulabi Gang'.
He landed his first film but not before an audition. He says, “I was selected in the audition. For me, this film is huge because it brings together Madhuri and Juhi on screen together for the first time.“
Speaking about his interaction with the divas, Sudev grins, “They are both surprisingly very down to earth women. They were aware that the crew was in awe of them, so they would go out of their way to make all of us comfortable! Juhi is very bubbly, giggly and warm. Both of them are not what I imagined them to be!“ The film is slated for release next year.
Talking about his Malayalam film 'My Life Partner', Sudev explains, “I am playing one of the main leads in the film. What interested me about the script is that it is a subject not seen so far in Malayalam. It is a performance oriented role, which excites me as an actor. In fact, I did get a few offers earlier but nothing so exciting."
It was Sudev's friend Sajeev who recommended him for the role.
Director Padmakumar says, “My film is about a relationship between two men and Sudev's character character is a very strong. In fact, I had approached many mainstream actors of Mollywood but they demurred from playing the role, added to the fact that I was a debut director. Sudev is very excited about the role and is already preparing himself; he calls up regularly and asks questions about his role."
This film stars actor Ameer as the other lead.
Before signing off, Sudev says, “I am also playing one of the lead roles in the next gen Bollywood film 'Music Meri Jaan'."
