Phone Pe helps police book sex offenders in AP

Details on the app helped the police catch hold of accused

Nellore: Sending a clear warning to persons molesting minor girls even if the victims are in sex worker homes, Prakasam district police have detained nine men on Saturday for sexually abusing a minor girl in July at Madevapuram village in Kandukur mandal.

The determination of Prakasam SP Siddharth Kaushal to apprehend the accused led the police teams to opt for a scientific investigation and work round the clock to track down as many as 20 accused and nab nine of them on Saturday.

In fact, the police team was baffled when they found out that the woman running the sex worker home, Nadendla Madhavi, carried out all monetary transactions through the popular app. The practice helped the police team to reach the accused with the help of phone numbers and bank account details.

Kandukur police had held the pimp running the home, Madhavi, on July 18 this year for confining a minor girl and forcing her into sex work.

Usually such cases end after freeing the girl and sending the pimp to jail but Kaushal formed an IT team under the supervision of DSP, women’s police station to trace the male customers to teach them a lasting lesson.

The team analysed all transactions and collected the phone numbers and bank details of all the customers with the help of Phone Pe, the mobile wallet app.

Armed with phone numbers, the team traced the names and addresses of the men and booked them under various sections, including the protection of children against sexual offences (POCSO) act.

The accused have been identified as Syedd Salman, 24, of Kondepi, Katragadda Sivakumar, 24, of Chowtapalam, Burramsetty Ravi Teja, 24, of Singarayakonda, Gondi Vamsi Krishna, 24, of Kondamurusupalem, Kasireddy Bramha Reddy, 25, of Chintalapalem, Unnam Naveen, 31, of Ponnaluru (M), Dhanyasi Deva Prakash, 24, of Ulavapadu, Ravuri Aravind, 25, of Ponnaluru and Komatla Yedukondalu, 30, of Kothapatnam in Prakasam district.

State women commission members and child protection officer, Prakasam district, P. Sekhar Babu, lauded Kaushal and police team for nabbing the accused.

Babu explained the recent amendments in the rules of POCSO offences by the government of AP and provisions of special relief and compensation rendered to victims.
