Thiruvananthapuram: Orthodox faction to boycott talks

The Orthodox faction had stayed away from the previous conciliation talks held on July 11 also.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Orthodox faction has decided to keep off the talks convened by the government on Thursday to sort out the issues with the Jacobites following the Supreme Court verdict on the Malankara Church dispute.

The Orthodox faction had stayed away from the previous conciliation talks held on July 11 also.

Orthodox Church secretary Biju Oommen has written to Chief Secretary Tom Jose on the decision. However, the Jacobite faction will attend the meeting. The Orthodox faithful had forcibly entered some churches under dispute after the Supreme Court pronounced the order in their favour.

After the previous meeting, a delegation of the Orthodox Church had met industries minister E.P. Jayarajan who is the convener of the Cabinet sub-committee appointed to sort out the issues.

Its members are revenue minister E. Chandrasekharan, transport minister A.K. Saseendran, ports minister Rama-chandran Kadannappally and Water Resources Minister Krishnankutty.
