Bengaluru: Duo dupe gold pledging firm of Rs 1.5 crore

On May 19, Lokesh, along with three of his friends went to the Corporation Circle where the duo was waiting in a car.

Bengaluru: Halasoor Gate police have intensified their search for two people, including a woman, who have duped a private gold pledging company of Rs 1.5 crore.

The accused, identified as Hema Choudhury (60) and her associate Narendra (26), both residents of Kengeri, have been on the run since May 18.

The incident has taken place at the Rajarajeshwari Nagar branch of Hindustan Gold Company. According to police, one Sudha, a resident Rajarajeshwari Nagar and an agent working for the branch, recently brought along Hema and Narendra to introduce them to branch manager Mohammad Shabi.

The accused had convinced Sudha that they had 6.5 kg gold and wanted to pledge. On May 18, Sudha called up Shabi and told him that Hema and Narendra wanted to pledge their gold and asked him to pay them Rs 1.5 crore.

As Sudha was an agent and known him for over two years, Shabi gave the money to one of the staff Lokesh and asked him to hand over the money to the duo.

On May 19, Lokesh, along with three of his friends went to the Corporation Circle where the duo was waiting in a car.

Lokesh met Hema and Narendra who took money from him and told him that they will get the gold from the hotel room they were staying. Lokesh and his friends waited for hours, but they did not return.

Feeling duped, Lokesh approached Halasoor Gate police and lodged a complaint.
