The news that a local resident of Karimnagar has contracted the coronavirus disease from a team of Indonesians has caused tension in the town of about 3.5 lakh residents. An estimated 1 lakh people pass through Karimnagar every day.
With Karimnagar entering the second stage of coronavirus transmission, it would become a challenging task for the officials to take preventive measures and trace the persons who came in contact with the Indonesians and the local resident who tested positive.
The Karimnagar resident who is associated with the Popular Front of India (PFI) and runs an coaching institute, has connections with a large number of people in the four districts of Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jagtial and Rajanna Siricilla.
He received the Indonesians, spent three days with them from March 14, until they tested positive to Covid-19.
During this period, he ran the coaching centre in violation of rules till it was seized on March 17. At that time, there were about 12 students present there.
The district administration has announced the collectorate and Mukurampura regions as red zones and sealed the area.
Collector K. Shashanka and police commissioner V.B. Kamalasan Reddy visited the Mukarampura region and interacted.
Medical teams conducted screening tests of about 80 people who came in touch with the Indonesians and shifted six suspected people to the government main hospital for further screening.
