Kochi: The more than 14-year-long wait of Thuruthy colony residents for the title deeds is coming to an end soon as the City Corporation council on Saturday decided to approve the title deed for 51 families in the colony. They could not be given title deeds due to technical and legal issues.
The government will provide title deed after the civic administration issues a no objection certificate. It was in 2005 that the residents approached the Corporation seeking NOC. Though discussions started in 2006, disputes and lack of clarity regarding the ownership of land hindered processing of their application.
“Recently, based on the decision taken by a meeting of Corporation and revenue officials and K.J. Maxi, MLA, tehsildar has been entrusted to confirm ownership details of the land. The official submitted a report that land of 51 families belong the Corporation and there is no legal problem in providing title deeds. Based on it, the civic administration has decided to give NOC,” said Mayor Soumini Jain.
The Mayor added that NOC will be given to the remaining 13 families once they submit documents of ownership of land.
Both the Opposition and ruling bench members demanded immediate measures to give clearance for title deeds. The colony residents, who were present in the session, expressed happiness over the council’s decision.
